The Dalton
Community Historical Museum is located
just north of the Village
Green Park on Main Street and just east of
the center of town. The Museum is open to the
public, but by appointment only. If you would
like to schedule a visit to the Museum just call
the Town Hall at 330.828.2221.
The building is the Old Eagle Hotel and Tavern
and was built in 1821 and operated by a man whose
name was Freeman. It was originally made of logs.
A log area has been left for viewing the original
structure on the southeast corner of the building.
In 1978 it was given to the Dalton Community
Historical Society by Mr. and Mrs. Lloyal Santmyer
who had occupied the structure as their home for
many years. For more
information on the Museum click here.

The Dalton Community
Historical Society was formed in 1978
to discover and collect all available historical
material connected with Dalton and preserve the
same: collect, preserve, and diffuse historical
information regarding genealogy. To provide for
the collection preservation and display of historical
relics, paper, books, records, museum materials
etc. as appropriate for a historical society.

The Village of
Dalton located
on Old Route 30 observed its 125th anniversary
in 1981.
It was originally three
separate villages. They were Dover, surveyed in
1817, Sharon and Middleton, surveyed in 1828.
Later in 1856 they were incorporated under the
name Dalton.
The Village has survived 6
major fires. The fire in 1894 destroyed almost
every building on Main Street. More than 30 property
owners suffered losses. It was thought to be the
work of an arson.
The Village has recovered
and become a thriving community with a well organized
fire department whose members are deeply committed
to serving the community as well as nearby areas. |
