Dalton in Summer

"If not us. . .who?
  If not now. . .when?”

It wasn’t that long ago that one of the world’s great statesmen, and one of America’s most popular presidents ever, asked that question of our nation.

Today, the community served by the Dalton Local School District – a community with a proud history of providing generous support – faces a similar question. As we reflect upon our district’s many accomplishments, we do so knowing that we must turn our attention to the future.

The Dalton Local Board of Education, after careful review and deliberation, is asking our community to ensure that the district has the funds to continue our outstanding educational program – by approving Issue 8 on November 4.

We believe that you as a voter of the Dalton Local School District have both the right to know what Issue 8 is all about, and the responsibility to make your voice heard. This information is provided to give you the details of this important issue, so that you can make an informed decision for our schools and our children.

The Need

It is predicted that the Dalton Local School District will have an indebtedness of $78,629 by the end of next fiscal year. Since 2001, the district has utilized its cash reserves to maintain present programs and services offered to the youth of our communities.

The chart below graphically shows how cash reserves will be depleted next fiscal year (FY):

The Reason
The district has experienced normal inflation in its operating expenses. That, coupled with relatively flat revenue growth in local and state funds, has forced the district to maintain present programs and services by spending its cash reserves.

The Solution
For the Board of Education to generate the necessary revenue to offset the district’s predicted deficit, it is now essential that we pass Issue 8 this coming November 4.
The Board firmly believes that our community desires to continue the tradition.

The Tradition
Tradition. It’s as much a part of the Dalton and Kidron communities as family, fresh air, and hard work. We are conservative people, but we are also proud. Proud of our community. Proud of our heritage. Proud of our ingenuity and our accomplishments. And, proud of our schools. Over the years, the Dalton and Kidron. . .  More on Issue 8 click here
